Ten-Year Anniversary of my First Prison Visit

This past week marked ten years since I first walked into a Kentucky state prison to visit my cousin, who was serving a life sentence. In one sense, it feels impossible that only a decade has passed. In another, it feels like it was Decades ago because that first visit changed the way I understood family, forgiveness, and the human cost of our mass incarceration system.
