The Covenant of the Shared Path

The Covenant of the Shared Path

And the welcoming of new Prisoner’s Hope (TPH) Mentors

I. The Call to Presence

We gather not as those who have arrived, but as those who are traveling. We recognize that the walls which divide us are thinner than the hope that unites us.

We open the gates of our hearts to each of you. We make room at the same table of grace as we have been invited to and the same opportunity to change lives as has been extended to us.

I. The Commitment of the Mentor

Do you commit to walk alongside these brothers and sisters, not as a master of the map, but as a fellow traveler? Do you promise to offer your presence before your advice, and your listening before your judgment?

Mentors: We do. We offer our hands, hearts and our time. We covenant to see the person, not the past; to hear the story, not the file; and to walk until the path becomes clear.

I. The Reception into Family

To our new TPH mentors: You are no longer observers. You are kin. In this family, we carry each other's burdens so that the weight does not break us.

We welcome you into this circle. We receive your gifts, and we offer you our own. We covenant to support you as you support others. We are one body, one hope, and one journey.

The entire TPH family
